Art Direction for 2D and 3D Animated Shows for Disney and Nickelodeon
For 2D animation, I create color scripts to tell the story. They are very useful to get my bg painting and color styling teams on the same page. They are also helpful in communicating with the director. I enjoy the process of using a color palette and lighting to heighten action scenes and create the mood throughout an episode.
For 3D, I create color scripts from the storyboard like in 2D. However, in 3D, I can additionally photoshop paint over cg models of sets and characters to provide the cg artists with texture and lighting information. This is really helpful for the entire team to see what it will look like in the final render.
